The cooling fan used on the Tranquillo is essentially GELID's Silent 12PWM that I reviewed in their fan roundup last year. This is a 120mm, PWM controlled fan that uses GELID's "intelligent PWM fan curve". This fan curve is said to offer a smoother slope, allowing for quieter operation at slower rotational levels than a traditional PWM fan. The fan ranges from 12dBA@750RPM, up to 25.5dBA at the full 1500RPM. Even at full speed, this is still a fairly quiet level for a 120mm fan as a lot will average 28dBA and up.

The fan on this cooler uses a hydro-dynamic bearing design and is infact a re-branded GELID Silent 12PWM. This is different from GELID's Gamer series fans that use their Nanoflux bearing. Advantages of a hydro-dynamic bearing are the obvious quiet operation and a longer life span when compared to ball bearing or sleeve bearing designs. There's a five year warranty on this cooler to back that - definitely something you don't find very often these days.

The Tranquillo is compatible with virtually ever major socket type on the market and mounting hardware for all this is included right in the box. Check out the full compatibility list below:

Intel
Socket 775, 1366 and 1156 CPU:
All Pentium D / Pentium 4 / Celeron D
All Pentium Dual-Core / Extreme
All Core2Extreme / Core2Quad / Core2Duo
All Core i5
All Core i7

AMD
Socket 754 / 939 / 940 / AM2 / AM2+ and AM3 CPU:
All Athlon 64 X2 / Athlon 64
All Athlon 64 FX / Opteron / Sempron
All Phenom
All Phenom II

A minute syringe of GELID's own GX-2 thermal compound is included with the Tranquillo. This is more than a one-use package and will likely last you two installations if used properly.
