Features:
These switches are a 22mm diameter panel-mount style of switch. The front facing, button and switch body are made entirely of marine grade stainless steel. Around the upper section of the body where the face plate makes contact with the surface it's being installed on is a rubber O ring. The upper three quarters of the body is also threaded so you can firmly mount it onto the panel it's being installed on. This is far sturdier than many cheaper switches which only clip through the holes they are being installed in, or use threaded plastic mounting nuts.

As mentioned, these switches do come in two different LED styles. We were lucky enough to get one of each type so you can see in the pictures just what they look like. The first style has the LED ring around the outside of the switch and the second style is with a circular LED section in the middle of button that you push. Both switch styles are available with Blue, Red, Green, Orange, Amber, UV and White LED options. At 20mA these LED's have a rating of 3V. Also note that these are bright daylight LED's so you don't need to worry about them being washed out if your room lighting is on.

Hookup is done via the six contact plates that come off the bottom of the switch. I'm happy to see more signs of quality because these contact plates are all gold plated. Since the switches are LED illuminated, the two middle contact plates are simply a positive and negative contact to provide power to the LED. The other four contact plates work in pairs; corner to corner. One set is with the contacts normally open and pushing the switch closes them, and the other pair of pins is with the contacts normally closed and pushing the switch opens them. Depending on your situation, you may have to use one or both sets of contacts.

Installation:
Every installation situation for these switches will be different depending on what they're being hooked up to control. Keep in mind that no instructions are included with them because of this. You will have to have a basic electrical knowledge or at least a multi meter to find the normally open and the normally closed contacts. As the back of the package says, you'll also have to hook up the appropriate resistor in series with the LED terminals. The LED's are rated for 20mA. If you are unsure how to calculate the appropriate resistor to put in series with the LED power, then take the voltage you want to power the LED with and divide it by 0.02 mA. This will give resistor sizes of 250 ohms for 5 volts, 600 ohms for 12 volts, and 1200 ohms for 24 volts, as an example. You can calculate this for other voltages as well of course. The contacts of these switches are rated for 50 mAmp at 24 volts DC.

Testing:
Being a switch, there isn't really a whole lot of testing I could do on either of these to talk to you about. I've included a few photos of them powered up so you can see the LED's at least. These switches have a very firm and immediate action to them. They do not feel cheap or sloppy at all. These Lamptron switches have the look and feel of very good quality switches.

Conclusion:
When your building or "modding" project requires a switch, don't just put in any switch, check out the Vandal Resistant switch line from Lamptron. With two different LED styles and seven different colour options, there's bound to be one that will work for you! For around $15 Canadian you're getting not only a great looking switch but also a great quality switch as well.

Pros:
Well built switches
LED illumination looks cool
Two different LED illumination styles

Cons:
None that I could find
