As mentioned before, the main feature that sets the Super.fi 5's apart from the 3's we previously reviewed is their use of dual precision balanced drivers. Essentially, one driver covers the low frequencies and the other driver does the highs. This allows each driver to be precisely tuned for the frequencies it amplifies thus giving a better overall sound when combined. The crossover for all this to happen is a passive crossover that's built into each driver.

Since everyone's ears are different, a bag of universal tips are included to get you started with the Super.fi 5 Pro's. This includes two foam tips, two flange tips and two of each small, medium and large silicone tips. The tips are very easy to pop off and replace. While they're off isn't a bad time to clean them either and to help clean inside the canal of the earpieces, Ultimate Ears includes a small cleaning tool as pictured with the tips.

Since the in-ear style of earphones fit tightly, their goal is to achieve a high level of noise reduction. This allows you to listen to your music at lower levels to help protect your ears and shield them from any loud noises around you. This is especially good for musicians, who can be exposed to dangerous sound levels many times a week at things such as regular band practises and gigs. Many musicians don't realize that just jamming loudly in your basement a few times a week without ear protection can lead to serious hearing damage, tinnitus or even hearing loss if it occurs too often. The Super.fi 5 Pro's provide up to -26dB of noise isolation which is right around the same level of isolation the highest model of Ultimate Ears custom ear plugs provide!

Really going the extra distance with accessories, you'll find an interesting little black dongle included with an airplane on the one side. This is a sound level attenuator and will help lower the sound levels coming into the earphones if you're using them in extremely loud environments such as airplanes. Having a loud, and possibly even clipping, sound signal coming into the earphones could damage not only the internal drivers but also your hearing!

The included tin case is of course one of those included goodies that really puts the icing on the cake for me. It's ultra-stylish having a grey tin exterior with the UE logo embossed into it, and the lining is all a black suede-like material. Although it can easily hold the earphones and some small accessories, it would be nice if this case would be just a little bit larger because it can all be a tight fit sometimes!

Since the connector on the cable is 1/8" to fit most consumer products, an 1/8" to 1/4" adapter is also included to use the earphones in devices which may require an earphone plug of that size.

Now it's time to talk a bit about the cable on these, yet another of my top favourite features. Just like all their custom made models, the Super.fi 5's includes the removable and replaceable cable. This can be taken off and replaced by a variety of cables available in different colours and lengths. Being able to buy a shorter or longer length is certainly beneficial and will eliminate having to bundle up and tuck away cord like I find myself doing with way too many sets of headphones/earphones these days! The included cable is the 46 inch length. Up where the cable connects to the ear pieces, for approximately two inches, there is a metal wire lining the inside of the cable. This wire is flexible and can actually be used to mould the wire to sit nicely around your ears. This enhances both the comfort of the ear pieces as well as their overall fit (will reduce them moving around as the cable moves during use).
