Out of the box, the Prominent R is a great looking case. The front and top of the case are completely black mesh, which allows for great airflow. The side panels of the case are flat black (none of this fingerprint prone gloss black stuff). Each side panel has a Nexus logo stamped in the middle. To keep things uniform, the chassis itself is also painted black.
Focusing closer on the front, you can see that there are four 5.25" drive bays that are externally accessible. The lower bay cover has a removable center piece which allows this bay to double as a 3.5" bay (see my picture below). The rest of the front is simply a black grill.
Just around the top edge are the front accessible I/O ports. Nexus has packed this panel with an eSATA port, a USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, two audio ports along with power and reset buttons and power/HDD activity LED's. You'll notice that just back from these ports is a slanted tray. This tray is actually an external hard drive dock. The SATA power and data port headers are at the bottom of this tray, making it easy to dock a 3.5" or 2.5" drive up here without needing an external enclosure.
