In early 2011 we featured one of our first reviews for FSP Group. Although you may not recognize the name - FSP is actually the fifth largest power supply manufacturer in the world. FSP power supplies are found in more than just computers, which is why they may not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of computer power supplies. Through their own product lines and their extensive OEM/ODM lines, FSP brings in over $600 mil. USD a year in revenue.
The FSP power supply I reviewed last year, which continued to power my home media server until just last week, was the Aurum Gold. At the time, the Aurum Gold was the most inexpensive 80PLUS Gold power supply I had reviewed, and also one of the less expensive models in this market in general. Since the time of that review FSP seems to have recognized what a great quality product they had on their hands - the price of the Aurum Gold is now quite a bit more than it was when first reviewed.
To fix one caveat of the Aurum series, it's non-modular cable design, FSP came to market with the Aurum CM series. The CM series is very similar to the basic Aurum series in almost every way except that it has a modular cable design with flat ribbon style cables. I have an Aurum CM here today, so let's take a better look, shall we?
