Last summer I set out to buy myself a home theater system for my LCD TV. Since I was tight on space in my awkwardly shaped living room, a soundbar system seemed like it was the best way to go. The soundbar could sit across the top or bottom of my TV and the subwoofer could easily tuck into the corner. My choices for soundbar systems also seemed pretty abundant - I found at least half a dozen or so different systems at local retailers that were in my price range. However, after trying out most of the systems available I was horribly disappointed in what I heard. I ended up increasing my budget and packing a much larger system into this room than I had originally planned.

A lot of new soundbar systems have appeared on the market in the last few months and I haven't had the opportunity to get hands-on with any of these to see how they fare against those which I demo'd many months ago. Today, in the comfort of my own home, I have Samsung's latest HW-D550 home theater soundbar system to try out.
