InWin Matrix Micro-ATX Case

InWin Na External Hard Drive Enclosure

GlacialTech Altair A381 HTPC Case

When building an everyday home computer most people don't have the need for specialized components and huge flashy video cards. A simple system with one optical drive and one large hard drive will typically suffice. For that reason, there isn't always a need to buy a full size ATX motherboard and mount it in a huge tower case that you may or may not have room for. When that's the case, it's never a bad idea to consider building a Micro-ATX system. Not only are these motherboards smaller but the cases also come in very convenient sizes that don't look so large and out of place when placed in a living room. Having not done a Micro-ATX case review in a while I was happy when the opportunity arose to check out InWin's latest, the Matrix. [read more]

With external hard drives as inexpensive and abundant as they are, I have seen many creative and good looking enclosure designs. Most of these follow the simple base design of being some form of square or rectangular box. How this basic box is designed, decorated and the features it has are the many things that manufacturers choose to get a little creative with. When InWin invited me to review the Na enclosure I was slightly struck by the name itself; 'Na'. Initial research into this enclosure showed me that it's design and name is inspired by Chinese calligraphy - an interesting concept to base a hard drive enclosure around! The Na has now arrived at my doorstep so it's time to dive a little more into this very unique looking enclosure to see what it's all about. [read more]

Home theatre PCs are certainly not a "new" invention by any means, but the number of households that have one is on a constant rise. As component makers push to make newer low-cost systems, it's now possible to build a complete computer case for under $250 Canadian if you really want to. Now that computers are really in the price range of everyone, we are seeing more and more being built for home theatre use. To cater to this growing market there are also more and more manufacturers releasing HTPC product lines. Today, we're taking a look at the Altair A381 case from GlacialTech - an intriguing looking case with a built-in VFD display and included remote. [read more]

Tuniq Potency 550W Power Supply

InWin Commander 750W Power Supply

Samsung CLP-315W Network Colour Laser Printer

Don't let the name come as a surprise to you, although most people aren't too familiar with the Tuniq name, almost all modders and PC enthusiests have likely heard the Sunbeam name at least once. Tuniq is actually a division of their parent company Sunbeam Tech. Although their North American product availability for Tuniq is scarace, that is due to change as their product line increases. In the past we've taken a look at their Thermal grease but today we have the opportunity to check out the 550W Potency power supply. I'm certainly excited to see how this power supply will perform as we take a dive into the more technical end of their product line. [read more] InWin is still somewhat of a quiet name around here. The first review we did for them was of their Allure computer case, a case for the ladies decorated in authentic Swarovski crystals with a fine attention to detail all around. Today, we've been given the opportunity to check out a power supply from their latest Commander series. These are marketed as high performance power supplies ranging from 650W up to an outstanding 1200W! The unique military styled box and paint design on the power supply are certain to make it a looker, but will it prove to perform as well as it looks? [read more] With colour laser printers having been in the market for long enough now, we're starting to see manufacturers take a step towards playing with their design a bit more. Trying to entice people to spend a little extra and go for a colour laser instead of that old monochrome laser which doesn't print nice pictures. I happen to have the Samsung CLP-315W sitting here today, a colour laser printer promising a smaller size than most and a lower price than most while still managing to integrate wired and wireless networking capabilities.
